So you’ve had a hard and long day and you are finally back home ready to watch some TV. You switch on the TV and immediately face a dilemma; what to watch. You think you are spoilt for choice when it comes to TV but nothing could be further from the truth.
The fact is that it is just 6 companies that control 90 % of what you watch. Yes it’s true, no matter what you are watching right now be it ESPN or CBS or Fox news they are all controlled by the 6 giants. And the 6 giants are: Disney, New-Corp, Viacom, Time Warner and CBS.
Few fun facts about the mediaIn 1983 90% of American media was owned by 50 companies. Today the same percentage is owned by 6 companies.Total revenue for 2010 of the big six was $275.9 Billion. That’s $36 billion more than Finland’s GDP.News Corp owns top newspapers in 3 continents.For every media executive there are 850,000 subscribers
We think we live in a free world but in fact the world we live in is being controlled by corporations. The internet for example is no longer a free place and continues to be the target of corporations to bring it under control. In today’s world even water is packaged and sold. What’s next? packaged breathable air?
