For how long do you use your cellphone? A year maybe two sometimes even less than that. ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­And what do you do with the cellphone which is not in use anymore? It’s either tucked away in a drawer or it becomes a part of the landfill outside the city. Which then decomposes there and its contents like lithium, nickel, plastic and Coltan are leaked into the environment damaging it.

Cell phones like everything can be recycled. Coltan which is considered quite precious and is unfortunaltely a conflict metal and is used in almost all electronic gadgets. The good part is that you can contribute by recycling your old and useless gadgets. This article from The Nexrt Web shows us the 5 tips in which we can recycle our cell phones and other old gadgets.

Help the ones in need

Just because you don’t need your cell phone anymore doesn’t mean no one else can use it. You can either them to charities like Help Soldiers Call Home. This charity provides calling cards to all soldiers posted overseas so that they can keep in touch with their families. They do so by collecting and reselling and recycling old  mobile phones.

It’s a simple logic really. If you recycle your old cell phone it wont end up in the landfill therefore the harmful contents will not leak and damage the environment.

If your old generation iPhone is still in a perfect working condition rather than leave it rotting at home just resell it. Reusing is the way of recycling and it’s always good to get a few bucks in return.

Use it for art

This did strike even us as strange but if you can use old and rusted car parts to create art there is no reason why you can’t use discarded cellphones.
