It would be safe to say today that smartphones have taken over the world when it comes to doing virtually anything. International Communication Union suggests that 5.9 billion people in the world are using smartphones today. That is a staggering 87% of the world’s population today.
This fact means that there is a huge scope for mobile marketing. Also the fact that 1.5 billion people use mobile web only strengthens the argument. This article by Jason Fall from Entrepreneur highlights the 5 questions every business owner must ask before they jump into the world of mobile marketing because every business opportunity demands a good start.
Should you go for an app or a mobile website? This is the primary question you need to ask yourself before you get down to penning your mobile marketing strategies. Most businesses prefer to go for websites rather than apps because apps need to be designed for different platforms such as Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android platform. Websites on the on the other hand can work on any platform and all you need is mobile web.
But while going for a website you need to define where do you intend to lead your customers. Also you should keep on mind that your website should be easily readable on the screens of tablets and smartphones and involve as less zooming in and out as possible.
Other questions you should askWhen should I go in for an app?You should only opt for apps as a full service if you have a large amount of original data being created. Also apps are supposed to supplement your website and customer experience and not overwhelm your website.
Responsive design? Is it credible?Responsive design basically means that you design only one website that runs on everything like smartphone, tablets and PCs rather than designing a separate one for each platform. This is a must have for all businesses who are serious about mobile marketing.
How can I use QR codes?QR code or Quick Response codes are literally the best way to get the quickest response to your website. They are barcodes for the browser of the smartphone which when scanned takes you directly to the URL. You can literally convert anything into a QR code from coupons to brochures.
Is mobile commerce any good?Yes it definitely is. Today’s technology can let you scan a credit card number from your smartphone camera and accessories like Square can be attached to your mobile device in order to read a credit card. Also vendor websites such as Amazon have gotten way more mobile friendly than before.
